Lawndale schoolhouse class of 1911

Help preserve the Lawndale Schoolhouse 🏫—one of the last visible links to Kenmore’s early days. Your gift supports the Kenmore Historical Society’s work to save this landmark through careful repair, documentation, and public access.

This property is originally a one room schoolhouse built by Coventry Township in 1896. When Kenmore became a village in 1908, the property continued as a school until the modern (brick) Lawndale was built around the corner in 1922. The modern Lawndale closed in 2016 and was lost to a fire in 2022. The original one room schoolhouse still survives to this day but is in poor shape. It was most recently a church that closed in 2014.

We recently acquired this property from the Summit County Land Bank, with the intentions to preserve and rehab the building, and later re-open it for community use. First goals are getting the roof, gutters, and downspouts replaced, as well as restoring power to the building to provide secure outdoor lighting. We would prefer to use local companies, so if you know of any companies interested please let us know!
